South Ranch Creative is an art + design studio that helps small businesses and individuals find creative solutions to their visual needs.
I am the creative behind South Ranch Creative. My name is Becca Grogan and I am the owner, blogger, maker, seller, and marketer behind South Ranch. My love for creating, adventure, and activism has motivated me to open up shop and share my voice and my creativity with the world.
I’m a 23 year old lover of plants who’s getting her hippie on with hair that’s down to the middle of my back. You might call me an idealist which I would take as the biggest compliment ever, because my life goal is simply to do good and help people, animals, and nature. I hope that one day I can use my talents solely for a cause that I am passionate about, such as equality, sustainability, and human rights. One of the reasons I decided to work for myself was because I wanted to be in support of small and local businesses not only by being one myself, but by guiding my services towards small businesses, artists, entrepreneurs, bloggers, and individuals!
What is South Ranch Creative?
Graphic Design Studio
In 2015 I received my B.F.A. in Visual Communication Design at Virginia Tech. Go Hokies! After spending four years nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, becoming a passionate activist, and becoming more interested in sustainability and my environmental impact, I couldn’t even begin to envision myself working at a high end, New York design agency like many of my peers. And I DEFINITELY couldn’t see myself working in advertising for a big commercial company whose only goal is to get you to buy buy buy more junk you don’t need. I had the skills, but I wanted them to be implemented in a way that made an impact in real peoples’ lives.
While in school, I fell in love with letters–specifically in the form of calligraphy and hand lettering. That, and my background in fine arts, has brought a very handmade feel to much of the work I do. I specialize in branding and print design, but more recently I’ve gotten involved in and adapted that to the digital world. This means designing things like digital magazines, social media and blog graphics, and website branding and design.
Art + Handmade Studio
South Ranch Creative is also an art and handmade studio. I’ve been drawing since I was 3, painting since I was 6, and the rest is history. I’ve been most formally trained in illustration, oil painting, and watercolor, but because of my curious nature, I started doing art as obscure as pyrography and ceramics. In the South Ranch Shop, I sell handmade home goods and wedding decor with a goal of highlighting the beauty in the old, the natural, and the rediscovered. I like to call this style “urban rustic” because with an appreciation for old, found, and natural objects, I create something new and beautiful. I still produce paintings and illustrations, often focusing on nature, human, and animal subjects.
Is my work for you?
You might be able to tell by now that either I’m really passionate or kind of nuts for trying it all, but you wouldn’t be wrong either way so congrats! If your needs align to one of these categories, or even if they don’t and you just like what I do, I’d love to chat with you about it!
